Your 20-minute annual coverage review

A simple once-a-year routine to keep health coverage aligned with your life.

The short version

A short annual review can catch medication, provider, benefit, and budget changes before they become expensive surprises.

Gather four things

Bring your current plan documents, medication list, preferred doctors and pharmacies, and a rough summary of this year’s out-of-pocket costs. You do not need a perfect spreadsheet—just enough to see what changed.

Check the care you actually use

Consider upcoming procedures, new specialists, recurring therapy, durable medical equipment, and dental, vision, or hearing needs. A benefit is valuable only when its limits and provider access work for you.

Review plan notices

Read the Annual Notice of Change and Evidence of Coverage. Mark changes in premiums, copays, drug coverage, prior authorization, provider networks, and supplemental benefits.

Compare without rushing

Use Medicare’s official tools, plan documents, and a licensed professional if you want help. Keep notes on why a plan fits rather than choosing based on a single advertised benefit.

Save a clean record

Keep the date, the plan you selected, the sources you checked, and any confirmation number. A simple record makes next year’s review faster and helps if you need to resolve a question later.
